STRATEGIC PURCHASING 1
- WHO IS IT FOR?
This training program is designed primarily for employees who are new to purchasing, but it is also highly recommended for operational purchasers who lack experience in a strategic approach.
The program combines dynamic presentations, real-life examples from my professional experience, and interactive business cases that participants will actively work through. This ensures a practical, engaging, and results-oriented learning experience
- METHODOLOGY
This program is not just another training course offering “advanced” purchasing techniques that promise to solve every challenge. Nor does it focus on exceptional or unusual business cases that, while interesting, are rarely relevant to the day-to-day reality of most purchasers.
Instead, this program is a personal initiative—built on my own experience and perspective on purchasing—where transparency and competition are the fundamental drivers of optimal performance. There are many ways to approach purchasing; this is mine.
I am not a traditional consultant. I am an experienced purchaser who actively leads a purchasing team, with a genuine passion for the profession. This program was created after recognizing a clear gap: the need to effectively train and support inexperienced purchasers joining my own teams.
Through this training, I share practical knowledge and real-world experience using a clear, structured, step-by-step methodology. The focus is on everyday purchasing—approached with realism, pragmatism, thorough analysis, and open communication.
Participants develop and strengthen skills across the full spectrum of purchasing activities—from fundamental processes such as RFQ management and total cost of ownership (TCO) comparison, to more advanced areas including strategy definition, negotiation, cost analysis, target setting, and supplier management.
This approach is not theoretical—it is proven. It is built on nearly 20 years of professional experience managing multiple purchasing teams across different countries and working effectively in remote, international environments.
- STRUCTURE OF THE TRAINING
Across five core courses, we cover all key purchasing processes—from the fundamentals, such as purchasing principles and KPIs, to more advanced stages including strategy definition and supplier negotiation.
By completing these five modules, participants will gain the knowledge and tools required to become strong strategic purchasers. However, being a good purchaser is not the same as being an excellent one. For this reason, I also offer an additional course focused on achieving excellence—exploring the connection between leveraging your personal strengths, enjoying your work, and achieving outstanding results.
The full program consists of six courses, structured into two training blocks. Each block includes 20 learning hours delivered over two and a half days.
3 COURSES // 20 HOURS // 2,5 DAYS
1. 1 Basic Procurement // Welcome to purchasing
- Different types of purchasing & procurement.
- Purchasing principle & main KPI’s.
- Policies & standards.
- Introduction to basic concepts & processes.
Too often, we assume that fundamental topics are already understood by beginners—only to realize later that these concepts were never properly explained, nor was their importance made clear.
This course addresses that gap by building a strong foundation. It begins with an introduction to the different types of purchasing organizations—from the purchaser’s perspective, as well as in relation to market dynamics, company philosophy, and expectations from the supplier base.
Participants will learn core purchasing principles that are common across organizations, along with an introduction to procurement policies and standards that guide professional purchasing activities.
In addition, the course covers essential concepts and processes, including key procurement KPIs, the RFQ process, supplier analysis, and cost structure fundamentals. These building blocks are critical for developing a solid and confident approach to purchasing.
Duration: 4 hours
1. 2 Systematic Approach // Where we are: point A, and where we want to be: point B
- Transparency & cost analysis.
- Capacity check.
- Project pipeline.
- Target calculation & benchmarking.
Through a simple and pragmatic approach, this course will teach you how to bring transparency into your material group—the main pillar of effective purchasing—and how to use it to secure required capacities and define target prices for key activities such as sourcing and negotiations.
The course begins with a structured approach to collecting and clustering internal data. You will learn how to define an appropriate cost breakdown and how to calculate target prices using practical tools such as CVE, VSM, and LPP.
Building on this foundation, we will move into benchmarking techniques to identify key opportunities and prioritize actions. You will also learn how to assess installed capacity to ensure that supply can meet demand, and how to prepare for upcoming projects by aligning with available suppliers and relevant technologies.
In addition to the theoretical framework, the course includes several practical business cases to reinforce learning and support the direct application of concepts.
Duration: 8 hours
1. 3 Supplier Management // Find the right supplier to achieve point B
- Supply market analysis.
- Supplier phase in and phase out.
- Supplier performance evaluation and supplier development activities.
- Supplier risk management, company risk mitigation.
- Introduction to main purchasing contracts.
Selecting the right supplier is one of the most critical steps in procurement. In this course, you will learn how to effectively scout and analyze the supply market to identify and develop new business opportunities.
You will then be guided through the process of evaluating, selecting, and successfully phasing in the most suitable suppliers. The course also covers supplier performance evaluation and risk management, including practical strategies to mitigate potential risks for your company.
In addition, you will be introduced to the main types of procurement contracts and their role in securing stable and transparent business relationships. The course further explores supplier development activities, as well as how to manage a structured and professional phase-out process when a supplier is no longer aligned with your business needs.
To reinforce the concepts, the course includes a practical business case that allows you to apply what you have learned in a realistic scenario.
